Grover presents a prize to Esme

When it came to choosing a name for Godmanchester Rovers Youth FC's new mascot, a 6ft blue and white eagle, the club decided to make it a competition. Chairman of the club, Jonathan Forster, commented 'we had lots of suggestions from within and outside the club and we would like to thank everyone who entered the competition. At our last managers meeting we chose the winner and our club mascot is now named GROVER'.

The name GROVER was suggested by Esme Richardson, who runs the Snack Shack at Coneygear Park in Huntingdon, and Esme was rewarded with a basket of goodies by the club, presented by Grover and in the company of Esme's daughter, two of the clubs young players and Jonathan. Grover has already swooped in to surprise everyone at the clubs mini soccer school and also the Godmanchester Recreation Day last weekend.

In addition to the mini soccer school, which is mainly for children in year 1 and 2 at school, the club has 15 teams from under 8's through to under 17's, including a new girls team, and in total 200 children are involved in playing football with the club. Forty volunteers run the club and manage/coach the teams. For more information about the club, or if you are interested in getting involved, please see the club's website www.goddyrovers.co.uk.
